1. What is n+1?
n+1 Social Foundation is a not-for-profit organization working to improve foundational English and Math skills for children in underserved communities across rural India through programs like Read-a-Story (RAS) and Solve-With-Bharat (SWB).

 

2. Who are these programs for? (Design Thinking/ Global Impact Internship / IRI)
Both programs are designed for:

• High school students

• College freshmen and sophomores

• Students studying abroad (including NRI students)

• Students in India applying to colleges abroad

No prior experience is required.

3. What is the format of the programs? (Design Thinking / Global Impact Internship / IRI)

• Design Thinking Course: Online, project-based learning

• Global Impact Internship: Online, modular, and skill-based

• IRI: Optional in-person immersion in rural Maharashtra

 

About the Programs

4. What is Design Thinking?
Design Thinking is an online, project-based program where students work on real challenges in India’s education ecosystem using design thinking, collaboration, and guided problem-solving.

 

5. What is the Global Impact Internship?
It is a flexible, modular internship where students work on real-world projects linked to n+1’s programs while building practical, industry-relevant skills.​

 

6. What is the India Rural Immersion (IRI)?
IRI is an optional, in-person extension of I4E where students visit rural Maharashtra to experience how ideas translate into real-world implementation, working alongside community facilitators and schools.​

 

7. Do I have to participate in IRI?
No. IRI is completely optional and is designed for students who want deeper, on-ground exposure after I4E.

8. What will I gain from these programs? (Design Thinking / Internship / IRI)
You will:

• Work on real-world problem statements

• Build practical, portfolio-ready skills

• Develop communication, leadership, and critical thinking

• Gain exposure to both design and implementation (especially through IRI)​

 

9. Do I need prior experience? (Design Thinking/ Internship / IRI)
No. All programs are beginner-friendly and include guided learning and mentorship.

 

10. What skills will I learn? (Design Thinking/ Internship / IRI)
Depending on your program, you may learn:

• Design Thinking (Figma, AI tools)

• Data Analysis (R, Power BI)

• Creative Writing & Storytelling

• Social Media & Digital Marketing

• Video Editing & Content Creation

• Community engagement and field exposure (IRI)​

Time Commitment & Structure

 

11. How much time do I need to commit? (Design Thinking/ Internship)

• Design Thinking Course - Typically 12 hours across 2 to 3 weeks - batches year round - defined schedule

• Internship - Duration varies as per module selection (1–8 weeks per module for Internship)

• Conducted during school/college breaks​

 

12. What is the duration of IRI?
IRI is a short-term, in-person, 10-day immersion program (check dates available), conducted in rural Maharashtra.

Credits, Certification & Outcomes

 

13. Will I receive a certificate? (Design Thinking/ Internship / IRI)
Yes. Certificates are provided detailing participation, hours, and skills gained.

 

12. Can I earn academic credit? (Design Thinking/ Global Impact Internship)
Many institutions use the following benchmarks:

• 60+ hours → 1 credit

• 120+ hours → 2 credits

• 180+ hours → 3 credits

(Please confirm with your school/college.)

 

14. Will I build a portfolio? (Design Thinking/ Global Impact Internship/IRI)
Yes. Our programs focus on creating real, portfolio-ready work that can be used for college applications and future opportunities.

• Summer 2026 programs are currently open (limited seats)

• Early booking for Summer 2027 is available (no upfront payment required)

Experience & Impact

 

17. Will my work actually be used? (Design Thinking/ Global Impact Internship/IRI)

Yes. Projects are based on real needs, and strong work may be used or implemented within n+1’s programs. In addition, students

will create a project report (format can vary) that captures their work and highlights measurable learning outcomes and impact

in the field, something that can be valuable for college applications and future opportunities.

18. How are these programs different from others? (Design Thinking/ Global Impact Internship)

• Focus on real-world challenges (not simulations)

• Strong mentorship and guidance

• Combination of skills + impact

• Emphasis on portfolio and practical outcomes

19. What makes IRI unique?
IRI gives you the opportunity to:

• See real classrooms and communities

• Interact with students and facilitators

• Understand on-ground challenges and constraints

It bridges the gap between ideas and real-world impact.

​20. Who will mentor me? (Design Thinking/ Global Impact Internship/ IRI)
You will be guided by the n+1 team and mentors closely involved with the programs on the ground.

​21. Can I do both Design Thinking and the Global Impact Internship? If yes, in what order?

Yes, you can choose to participate in both programs, and they are designed to complement each other.

 

A suggested pathway is:
Design Thinking → Global Impact Internship → India Rural Immersion (IRI)

• Design Thinking  helps you build a strong foundation in design thinking, problem-solving, and understanding real-world challenges in education.

• The Global Impact Internship allows you to go deeper by developing practical skills and working on real projects, building a strong portfolio.

• IRI (optional) then allows you to experience these ideas on the ground, interacting with communities and seeing how solutions translate in real settings.

This progression helps you move from:
Understanding problems → Building solutions → Experiencing real-world impact

 

However, students can choose to participate in any program independently based on their interests and availability.
